This brand has always been under controversy because of one thing or the other. It was discovered by GlaxoSmithKline in a joint venture with Icos Corp, in the later stages GlaxoSmithKline didn’t renewed the agreement and Icos Corp underwent an agreement with Eli Lilly to further the development. Later they both merged upon the launch of Cialis and its becoming a hit, and formed Lilly Icos Co. Later Eli Lilly bought Icos Corp for $2.2 billion as they had a 50/50 share in the profit of Cialis now it would go solely to Eli Lilly.

But the twist in the story came when they had to fire almost 500 employees of Icos Corp keeping only 127; those 500 did protested and this deal was very controversial as many got jobless.

It evoked a lot of reaction when it sponsored the Super Bowl and aired its ads during Super Bowl, that didn’t went well with the parents and Cialis had to go trough a lot of criticism, as most of the families at that time sit together and are watching TV and such advertisements are considered inappropriate for minors and it was definitely not a suitable time to air such advertisements.

Well they say that Money Drives the World; but I would like to add a very minor change to it, i.e. Money Drives the World Crazy and even the civilized people start acting like they are from the Stone Age. This is what happened between the developers of Cialis, Lilly Icos and its competing brand Viagra’s developers Pfizer as they were leaving no stone unturned in efforts to pull each others leg.

They both Pfizer and Lilly Icos have filed many lawsuits against each other in various countries where both the brand were giving very stiff competition to each other and honestly speaking Pfizer got a little bit over the edge as Cialis was steadily chipping the market share of Viagra. Though this tug of war between the two giants; begun from the very start over the patent of PDE5 inhibitors, as both were working on the same thing and also developing it at the same time so this was natural but they really made a drama out of it soon the patent of one was about to over the other would jump for the exclusive rights for the patent ship. Pfizer was given a broad patent on PDE5 inhibitors in Britain in 1993. Lilly Icos filed a complaint in a London court in September 1999, and the patent was overturned in November 2000 on the grounds that Pfizer’s patent was based on information already in the public domain when the patent was issued. In the United States, Pfizer filed suit against Lilly Icos soon after receiving a broad US patent for PDE5 inhibitors in October 2002.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office ordered a reexamination of the patent, and, as in Britain, the examiner found that PDE5 inhibitors were not a new invention by Pfizer; voiding the patent, which literally surprised many and became a source of huge embarrassment for their tall claim about Sildenafil. In Canada, Pfizer moved to block sales of Cialis five months after it was approved there, arguing that there could be consumer backlash against Pfizer should Cialis be pulled from the market months later as a result of an ongoing patent lawsuit. A federal judge refused, saying he could not “imagine demonstrations in the street or storming of the barricades because one impotence medicine is made unavailable”.

Well there is a saying that “If people start talking about you then this indicates that you are progressing” and let me tell you; there is a lot of talk about drugs related to erectile dysfunction and not just in the public circles but the power and decision making corridors.

Even a rose does not come without a thorn and these are drugs for erectile dysfunction so a little bit of criticism is do expected.

But the interesting thing is that it is coming from every side. America’s Federal Communication Commission was moved for banning the airing of commercials related to impotency drugs of erectile dysfunction between 0600 to 2200 hours; only allowed afterwards, till 0600 next morning.

There are these social activists who start to mushroom out of the blue and then their usual work; criticism starts and how can they loose such a good chance. There are groups that advocate that this medicine has been the source of disrupt in the society and cause many social ills, where they appended many rapes and sexual abuse cases to the credit of drugs for erectile dysfunction.

Where there were many who are entirely against the concept of anti erectile dysfunction drug and say that this is conveying a very wrong message to the society and it woo people for sexual activities and make them feel that if they are not sexually active they are not normal.

Since the functioning mechanism of Cialis and other impotency drugs for erectile dysfunction are very clear and there are very little doubts about the tid bits of its operation. Therefore there are detailed studies proving that it has nothing to do with sperm count or affecting fertility anyway.

But in this age of microcontrollers, clones and transsexuals ruling out the possibility of something to be possible is literally impossible because there are documented proofs from both the sides who says that Impotency Drug do cause infertility and some says it doesn’t.

Several researches have been carried out to test whether it has any effect on the fertility. Some believe after proper testing first on animals and then test conducted on humans showed that it could reduce man’s fertility and it showed that anti-impotence drug not only speeds sperm up but it also caused the vital reaction needed to penetrate an egg to occur prematurely.

This Acrosome Reaction is the process by which the head of the sperm releases digestive enzymes to break down the outer shell of an egg, which then allows the sperm to enter and fertilize the egg.

Having said that; there are very authentic studies that indicate that Viagra has no known effects on sperm production, morphology (shape) and motility (movement) or count. Their reply to some of the researcher’s studies about the Acrosome Reaction is that the internal functioning of sperm traveling and enzymes break down is not similar in the conditions under which they carried out their experiments and the enzyme PDE 5 that is inhibited that had no proof and any effect on fertility. Therefore there are no chances of impotency drug for erectile dysfunction meddling with the fertility of users.
